Replace the connector on a camera
If the connector on your CCTV camera is damaged, you can replace it yourself using a few standard tools. This guide walks you through the process step-by-step.
What you’ll need
-
A replacement connector: BSM-FC-W (white) or BSM-FC-B (black)
-
Crimping tool
-
Soldering iron and solder
-
Electrical tape and scissors
-
Heat shrink tubing (diameter: 3.5–5 mm)
-
Heat gun or similar tool
Step 1: prepare the wires
Remove the plastic covers from the replacement connector.
Cut off the broken connector close to where it enters the cable. Remove about 3–5 cm of the outer insulation to expose the inner wires. Carefully strip each of the 6 individual wires to reveal 2–3 mm of copper.
Slide the heat shrink tubing over the cable now. You won’t be able to add it later.
Step 2: match and solder the wires
Connect each colored wire to its matching counterpart from the new connector. Twist and solder each pair securely.
Step 3: Insulate each connection
Wrap each soldered wire individually in electrical tape. This prevents short circuits and ensures signal integrity. You can also use
Step 4: seal with heat schrink tubing
Once all wires are individually insulated, slide the heat shrink tubing over the full splice section. Use a heat gun to shrink it tightly around the cable. This provides water resistance and added durability.
