Set up email notifications
Email notifications are now considered a legacy feature and are no longer actively developed. This functionality is provided “as is”, with no guarantee of future availability. For a more reliable experience, we recommend setting up push notifications.
Email notifications are a feature that emails you an alert whenever motion is detected or other specified events occur. To enable email notifications, you’ll need to provide SMTP server details to configure email delivery. In this article, we’ll guide you through the setup process using a free Gmail account as an example.
Step 1: gather SMTP details
Start by gathering the SMTP details for your chosen email provider. You’ll need the following information, which is typically available in the provider’s documentation:
- SMTP server.
- SMTP port.
- SMTP username.
- SMTP password.
Example details for a Gmail account
Prerequisites:
- Enable POP download and IMAP access in Gmail accounts settings
- Enable 2-step-verification for your Gmail account
SMTP details:
- SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com.
- SMTP port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS).
- SMTP username: your email address.
- SMTP password: generate an app password.
Step 2: configure email notifications
- Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
- In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon .
- Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted.
- Go to Storage > Cloud.
- Select the Email checkbox to activate email notifications.
- Complete all the configuration fields. Receiver 2 and 3 are optional.
- Click Test to test your SMTP settings.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
- At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon .
- Go to Device > Cloud.
- Click the Email toggle to activate email notifications.
- Complete all the configuration fields. Receiver 2 and 3 are optional.
- Click Test to test your SMTP settings.
- Click the Save button.
- Tap the menu icon .
- Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
- Depending on your recorder type, go to:
- Email Setting, or
- Storage > Cloud storage > Email setting.
- Tap the Email toggle to activate email notifications.
- Complete all the configuration fields. Receiver 2 and 3 are optional.
- Tap Test Email to test your SMTP settings.
- In the top-right corner, tap Save or the save icon .
