Update a camera's firmware

In some cases, a Bascom support representative may provide a file to update a camera's firmware to the latest version. We generally recommend updating firmware only for troubleshooting purposes. For enhanced security and functionality, focus on keeping the recorder updated. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to safely update the camera.

We recommend performing the update using the PC software, as the firmware will already be on your computer. If you prefer to update directly via the recorder, you'll first need to transfer the firmware file from your computer to a USB drive.

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)

Prepare the USB drive:

  1. Unzip the firmware file.
  2. Check if the file has a .sw extension.
  3. Copy the file to the USB drive.
  4. Connect the USB drive to the recorder.

Perform the update:

  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted.
  4. Go to System > Camera Maintenance > Upgrade.
  5. Select the camera you want to update.
  6. Click Select File, choose the firmware file from the USB stick, and click OK.
  7. Click Camera Upgrade.
  8. Authenticate with your password when prompted.
  9. The camera will now restart and update its firmware.
