Update the recorder's firmware

Updating your recorder's firmware can resolve issues or enhance functionality. Critical security updates are made available over the air, but bug fixes and feature enhancements require manual installation. This article will guide you through the steps to manually update your recorder’s firmware.

Step 1: find the device type and software version

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)
  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted. 
  4. Go to System > Information.
  5. Write down the Device Type and Software Version.

Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to System > Information.
  3. Write down the Device Type and Software Version.
Use the smartphone app
  1. Tap the menu icon  .
  2. Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
  3. Depending on your recorder type, to go:
    • System Information, or
    • System > System Information > System Information.
  4. Write down the Device Type and Software Version.

Step 2: request the firmware

Submit a request for the latest firmware, including the recorder's device type and current software version from step one. We'll email you the appropriate firmware.

Step 3: perform the firmware update

We recommend performing the update using our PC software, as the firmware will already be on your computer. If you prefer to update directly via the recorder, you'll first need to transfer the firmware file from your computer to a USB drive.

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)

Prepare the USB drive:

  1. Unzip the firmware file.
  2. Check if the file has a .sw extension.
  3. Copy the file to an empty USB drive.
  4. Connect the USB drive to the recorder. 

Perform the update:

  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted. 
  4. Go to System > Maintenance > Upgrade.
  5. Click Select File, choose the firmware file from the USB stick, and click OK.
  6. At the top right of your screen, click Upgrade.
  7. Authenticate with your password when prompted.
  8. The recorder will now restart and update its firmware.

Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to System > Maintain > Upgrade.
  3. Click the upload icon  , locate the firmware on your computer, and double-click it.
  4. Click Upgrade.
  5. The recorder will now restart and update its firmware.

If the message “Network Connection Failed” appears in the lower-left corner, it means the recorder is successfully updating. This process may take up to 5 minutes.
