Configure motion detection

Using a Bascom PRO or PLUS camera? We recommend disabling this feature and only use human and vehicle detection, as it provides more accurate results.

Motion detection is a technology that compares video frames and activates when differences are detected. You can adjust the sensitivity (how much movement is needed to trigger it) and specify if certain areas of the scene should be excluded. Motion detection is enabled by default and serves as the foundation for features like motion recording and push notifications.

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)
  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted.
  4. Go to Cameras > Motion Detection.
  5. Select the Enable checkbox for each camera to activate motion detection.
  6. To adjust a camera's motion detection settings, click the settings icon  .
  7. To change the motion detection area:
    • Click Select All to include the entire area, or click Delete All to clear the area and manually define a new detection zone.
    • Click or click and drag to mark areas in the camera feed. Red squares are included, and transparent squares are excluded from detection.
  8. From the Sensitivity dropdown, select a sensitivity level (1 for the lowest sensitivity, 8 for the highest sensitivity).
  9. Exit the menu by clicking the right mouse button.
  10. In the bottom-right corner, click Apply to save your changes.

Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to Channel > Motion.
  3. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  4. Click the Enable toggle to activate motion detection.
  5. To change the motion detection area, click or click and drag to mark areas in the camera feed. Red squares are included, and transparent squares are excluded from detection.
  6. To change motion detection sensitivity, set the level from the Sensitivity dropdown (1 for the lowest sensitivity, 8 for the highest sensitivity).
  7. Click the Save button.

Use the smartphone app
  1. Tap the menu icon  .
  2. Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
  3. Depending on your recorder type, go to:
    • Motion, or
    • Channel > Motion > Motion.
  4. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  5. Tap the Enable toggle to activate motion detection.
  6. To change motion detection sensitivity, set the level from the Sensitivity dropdown (1 for the lowest sensitivity, 8 for the highest sensitivity).
  7. To change the motion detection area, click Area Setting. In the camera feed, tap or tap and drag to mark areas. Red squares are included, and transparent squares are excluded from detection.
  8. In the top-right corner, tap Save or the save icon  .
