Set up a privacy zone

A privacy zone allows you to block out specific areas of the camera’s view to protect sensitive information or ensure privacy. This feature is useful for locations where certain areas should not be monitored or recorded, such as neighbouring properties. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to set up a privacy zone.

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)
  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. At the bottom left of your screen, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted. 
  4. Go to Cameras > Privacy. 
  5. Select the camera for which you want to create a privacy zone.
  6. Select the Enable Privacy Zone checkbox.
  7. Select one or more Area checkboxes, based on how many areas you need to cover.
  8. Position the red square(s) that appear:
    • Drag the bottom-right corner of the square to adjust its size.
    • Click and drag the middle of the square to move it.
  9. In the bottom-right corner of the screen, click Apply to save your changes.
Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to Channel > Video Cover.
  3. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  4. Select the Enable checkbox to turn on privacy zones.
  5. In the camera view, click and drag your mouse to draw up to 4 red squares over the areas you want to cover. To adjust a square:
    • Move: click and drag the square.
    • Resize: click the square to select it (a yellow border will appear), then drag any border or corner to resize.
    • Remove: click the square to select it (a yellow border will appear), then click the Delete button below the camera view.
  6. Click the Save button.
Use the smartphone app

To set up a privacy zone using the smartphone app, the recorder must be running firmware version V8.2 or higher.

  1. Tap the menu icon  .
  2. Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
  3. Go to Channel > Privacy zone.
  4. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  5. Tap the Enable toggle.
  6. Tap Privacy zone.
  7. In the camera view, tap and drag with your finger to draw up to 4 red squares over the areas you want to cover. To adjust a square:
    • Move: tap and drag the square.
    • Resize: tap the square to select it (a yellow border will appear), then drag any border or corner to adjust the size.
    • Remove: tap the square to select it (a yellow border will appear), then tap the Delete button above the camera view.
  8. Go back and tap the save icon  .
