Create custom cables

With our separately sold 100 or 300-metre cable reels, you can easily cut cables to the exact length required and then attach the connectors—a process called crimping. A major advantage is that you can drill small holes or run your cable through tight spaces and attach the connectors afterward, making installation much easier. In this article, we'll guide you through the crimping process step by step.

Strip the cable and untwist the wires

Use the sharp edge of the crimping tool to strip approximately 2 cm of the cable sheath. The easiest way to do this is to lightly press the crimping tool and rotate it around the cable, cutting the sheath all the way around.

Once the sheath is removed, you’ll see four pairs of twisted wires. Carefully separate these pairs to reveal the eight individual wires. Check that none of the wires were damaged when stripping the cable. Note that the eight wires themselves do not need to be stripped further.

Arrange the wires and trim them

Align the wires according to the correct order shown below. Then, using the crimping tool, cut the wires straight across, leaving them about 13 mm long.

Insert the wires into the connector

Hold the connector with the clip facing down. Carefully push the wires into the connector in the correct order, making sure they reach all the way to the end under the copper contacts. Ensure that about 8 mm of the cable's jacket is inside the connector. This is crucial to prevent the connector from loosening after crimping.

Crimp the connector

Once a connector has been crimped, it cannot be reused.

Insert the connector with the cable into the crimping tool and press the tool firmly together. After crimping, remove the connector from the tool. The wires should now be securely in place under the copper contacts, and the cable should be tightly clamped. You should not be able to pull the cable out of the connector. Repeat this process on the other end of the cable.

Tip: before securely mounting the camera, connect the cable to your camera and recorder to test the connection and verify the camera's feed.
