Change the recording method

The recorder supports various recording methods:

  • Continuous recording.
  • Motion-based recording.
  • Human and vehicle detection-based recording.
  • External alarm-based recording.

Each method can be configured individually for each camera. Additionally, you can choose when these recording methods should be active, such as setting them to record only after business hours. By default, the recorder uses motion-based recording to extend storage capacity.

Configure continuous, motion and alarm recording

To schedule these recording methods, choose one of the following options:

Use the recorder (with a monitor and mouse)
  1. Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the menu bar.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, click the menu icon  .
  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted.
  4. Go to Record > Record Settings > Record Schedule.
  5. From the Cameras dropdown, select a camera.
  6. On the right, select Continuous, Motion or IO (alarm).
  7. Click or click-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  8. Optionally, use the Copy option to quickly duplicate a schedule to other channels.
  9. Click Apply to save your changes.
Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to Record > Record > Schedule.
  3. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  4. On the right, select Continuous, Motion or IO (alarm).
  5. Click or click-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  6. Optionally, use the Copy option to quickly duplicate a schedule to other channels.
  7. Click the Save button.
Use the smartphone app
  1. Tap the menu icon  .
  2. Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
  3. Follow the instructions below, depending on the layout your menu matches:

  1. Go to Record Schedule.
  2. In the top-right corner, tap Setting.
  3. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  4. From the Day dropdown, select a day.
  5. From the Type dropdown, select Normal (continuous), Motion or Alarm.
  6. Tap the delete icon   to remove existing schedules.
  7. Tap the add icon   to add new schedules.
  8. Repeat for each camera/day/type combination. Use the Copy option to quickly duplicate channel, day, or type schedules to other channels, days and types.
  9. Tap Save.

  1. Go to Record > Record > Schedule.
  2. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  3. On the right, select Normal (continuous), Motion or Alarm.
  4. Tap or Tap-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the coloured highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  5. In the top-right corner, tap the save icon  .

Configure human and vehicle recording

Human and vehicle detection settings are configured in a separate area of the system. These can be combined with other recording methods or used on their own. To adjust these settings, use one of the following options:

  3. Click Settings and unlock the recorder if prompted.
  4. Go to Cameras > Intelligent > Schedule.
  5. From the Cameras dropdown, select a camera.
  6. Click or click-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  7. Optionally, use the Copy option to quickly duplicate a schedule to other channels.
  8. Click Apply to save your changes.
Use the PC software
  1. At the top of the application window, click the recorder settings icon  .
  2. Go to Channel > Intelligent > Schedule.
  3. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  4. Click or click-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  5. Optionally, use the Copy option to quickly duplicate a schedule to other channels.
  6. Click the Save button.
Use the smartphone app

To configure human and vehicle recording using the smartphone app, the recorder must be running firmware version V8.2 or higher.

  1. Tap the menu icon  .
  2. Go to Recorder settings and select your recorder.
  3. Go to Channel > Intelligent > Schedule.
  4. From the Channel dropdown, select a camera.
  5. Tap or Tap-and drag on the calendar to add or remove the highlight. Highlighted sections indicate when recording will be active.
  6. In the top-right corner, tap the save icon  .

Combine different recording methods

When configuring recording methods, you'll notice that you can combine different methods. This can be useful; for example, pairing continuous recording with motion-based detection adds colour-coded markers to the playback bar, making it easy to locate moments with activity.

The image above shows a timeline with all recording methods enabled. Each colour indicates a different type of recording:

  • Green for continuous recording.
  • Yellow for motion detection.
  • Blue for human or vehicle detection.
  • Red for external alarm triggers.
  • Orange for overlapping events.
